Did you know?

  • 96% of people think that a beautiful smile makes them attractive to the opposite sex. 99.7% of people stated that beautiful smile affects the social status and career advancement. (The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry)
  • Pastes for teeth whitening, which are often advertised, contain very mild concentration of carbamide peroxide so their effect is in inverse proportion to the aggressiveness of these campaigns. Those who have used them realized that either there is no effect or it is so discreet compared to the result achieved in the dental office.

Treatment of teeth whitening

Lifestyle, genetic predisposition and aging, as well as tea, coffee, cigarettes, red wine consummation, may affect the discoloration of teeth. By the invention of the laser teeth whitening method, this problem has never been easier to resolve.

In our office we use the latest generation of equipment for laser teeth whitening. The very process, along with the preparation, lasts for 90 minutes, is painless and, most importantly, has no negative consequences. Teeth whitening system is based on the use of hydrogen peroxide gel that is applied to the teeth and special UV lamps that do not heat and do not damage teeth but have a role to accelerate the process of whitening.

New color after bleaching will last from two to five years. Old teeth color gradually returns, so if you do not repeat the treatment, while maintaining proper hygiene, the color will still be brighter than the “original”.

One of the most common questions that patients ask the dentists is: “Is teeth whitening safe?” (American Dental Association) states: “Teeth whitening in the dental office, with the help of bleaching preparations produced by authorized manufacturers is completely safe and is considered the most effective method of teeth whitening.”

Mild thermal sensitivity (to cold) is a common side effect of teeth whitening. This phenomenon is always transient and usually lasts for 24 hours after the treatment.

On what basis does teeth whitening function?

The trick is in chemistry. If you think of school and compounds of hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide, then you already know a lot.
The molecules of these compounds are small enough to be pushed through the enamel (the outer layer of the tooth) and imperceptibly sneak into dentin (the next layer) where they decompose into water and oxygen.
The water evaporates, and the oxygen, by the processes of oxidation, whitens teeth. It looks simple, but this short explanation was preceded by many years of research of scientists. Of course, both water and oxygen are non-toxic, so any further witness about whether this is a harmless procedure is unnecessary.
